Inception-New again!

Inception may be one of the best movie of 2010 and its good to see world is waking up to new ideas of old times (The teachings of advaita). Movie is excellently done and starts bit slow but as your mind catch up with moves on the silver screen, it gives rise to mind shattering experiences. Movies is build on the idea that technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, that's what is claimed by the director but this is quite and old wisdom or more precisely the only wisdom one need for freedom from mind.

I remember one of verse from Yoga Vashistha which states that This World-appearance is a confusion, even the blueness of the sky is an optical illusion. I think it is better not to let the mind dwell on it, but to ignore it. (1:3)

Now going from the first part of this verse see if the whole objective world which we see as real is nothing but a illusory dream world and not more than that. In this dream world where we feel ourselves as body mind complex doing many things taking many roles and sleeping and dreaming during that sleep. This again consolidated in the movie by the idea of dream inside dreams.

Also in the movie its shown that time dilation happening while dreaming. And this is also true to our experience of dreams like in a sleep of a night time one can see the dream of whole life time or may be that includes many days at least. Using this knowledge and the wisdom mentioned in the verse above if we take that out life which is nothing but a dream, then 70-80 years of life in dream might be just fraction of moment in reality when we wake up from this dream called our life. This cools down mind so much that what we are fighting for or feeling insecure about pain and misery in life doesn't exist and even if it exist it's just feel expanded due to time dilation. Now by stretching this knowledge of time dilation in dream, if we keep coming out of dreams to more and more wakeful states then time will be condensing and in fully awaken state time will be zero. What it simply means that in fully awake state time doesn't exist. That one of the teaching one can read through in the book 'the power of now' by Ackhart Tolle or any other teaching of Advaita Vedanta weather its Yoga Vaishtha or Astawakra Geeta.

What is time? simply the distance between two events and in fully awaken consciousness there is no event. That consciousness is beyond time. wowwwww..... what a revelation and conscious experience of such a great revelation. Exactly similar experience during deep meditation when mind stop chattering and keep wondering in past and future and it comes to present moment and just rest!

There was another issue which was highlighted around the central character Cobb (played by Leonardo) that he was building his love story in dream states and wants to keep it alive in his dreams even he knew that his wife is dead. Now this open a subject of craving, attachment. This is exactly what happen to us in life we are living in dream world and basically not living just dreaming that we are living (refer the verse above!). Exactly same way we are trapped by beauties, possessions, name, fame and live hard and die hard for the things which do not exist which are nothing but dream world created by our own mind. And movie was mature enough to show the way out from attachment. In the final stages when Cobb saw his wife (of course in dream) he could use the power of his will and ascertain his mind that he is not seeing his wife but he is dreaming and he need to ignore it (refer the verse again!) and that brought all the dispassion and he could come out his dream to real world. Now taking this to our life, the only way collect that will to leave things which binds us is knowledge that this world is illusory dream.

There are many delicate knowledge points nicely depicted in the movie which can help us to progress on our path to freedom, on our path to be awake from dreams. Just go and watch and experience the thrill of introspection. Here are few nice quotes from the movie which are truly inspiring and filled with wisdom:

* What's the most resilient parasite? An Idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities. An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.

* Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.

* We create the world of a dream. We bring a subject into that dream and they fill it with their secrets.

* The seed that we planted in this man's mind may change everything.

* Your mind is the scene of crime!

Last but not least following video is done so well to explain the whole teaching of Advaita vedanta and our relationship with the whole, our relation with the Guru/ the Masters or Messiah.

Eat Less, Digest More

Spiritual or self-help teaching is a slippery path to walk upon. Being a spiritual teacher comes with a danger that one can have a notion of knowing without knowing. For example, i t is one thing to intellectually understand yoga is good for the healthy body but then doing it every day to keep the body healthy is an entirely different thing. Similarly, it is one thing to understand the benefit of practicing acceptance for the peace of mind then to living the acceptance.  Let's  expand upon it a bit. There are three kinds of understandings viz intellectual, experiential and existential. The first level of understanding is the intellectual understanding which is the most superficial one, like understanding of the mental phenomenon, methods of quietening the mind, and one can easily intellectually understand this knowledge or inner science which is very similar to the understanding of any other field like physics, chemistry, mathematics etc. Here the process mostly involves...

Sakshi-The Witness

There is wisdom beyond every event. There is love beyond every person. There is infinity beyond every object. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar These are beautiful lines spoken by world renowned spiritual leader and humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Though sounds very simple but these few lines are impregnated with vast wisdom which immediately bring the shift in consciousness by little dwelling. Other significance of these ' sutras ', the tenets of wisdom is that it covers most of mind stuff/activity/thought. If carefully deliberated one find mind dwells either on events, people or objects most of the times and all most all over conflicts whether personal or otherwise can be attributed to these three dimension of existence namely events, people and objects. Interestingly, events, people and objects brings two kinds of experiences, pleasurable or miserable. When these attributes brings pleasurable experience mind develop craving for those events, people or objects (e.g. partyin...
