Delhi Rape case: Dealing with Symptoms or Root Cause

Last month tragic and one of the most heinous and horrific crime happened in India's capital New Delhi, a 23 year old medical student was brutally gang-raped and assaulted almost to death (and later died) by six young man including one juvenile. This incident caused country wide protest and even caught attention of foreign media. This incident also served as ignition point for and anger and rage which has been building in civilized men and women around the world about women safety and dignity. Protesters were out on street in chilly winter of Delhi and demanded for harsh punishments and fast-track court to punish the culprits of this horrific crime. A committee headed by former Chief Justice of India J S Verma was constituted for revising the laws to deal with this perverted mind set which involve in rape. Suggestions were asked from the public in general. Media houses ran debate on this issues and day in an day out more rape cases around the country was reported. All had one intention that this menace must end as nobody can tolerate it anymore. Nobody feels safe. We are living in fear.

I was revising my reading on ayurveda and its comparison with modern western medicine system. Modern medicine system come into play when one is sick then one need to go to doctor to get some help. Once you are healthy then you can engage in life again. Great! But Ayurveda which literally means science of life says if we can only handle when one is sick, it means battle is already lost and we are dealing with broken system. There fore in ayurveda there are four level of healing:
1. Curing sickness and restoring health. (curative medicine and therapies are used)
2. Maintaining normal health. (preventive medicine and therapies, yoga-asana, pranayama are used)
3. Moving from normal health to higher planes of mental well-being and strength (meditation, music, dance, mantras are used)
4. Achieving ultimate possibility of human being (living enlightenment and methods to achieve that).

Sounds so holistic and complete! :-)

Our society is also like living organism. So many crimes, rape environment of fear shows the broken system. No doubt we need to take some curative actions but as society we need to think how and why we lost of health as society, definitely we are not not living in healthy society. All the six culprit of the crime where drunk in the night they engage in gang-rape. Medical science has proven that drinking impairs ability to judge and one looses emotional and mental balance, yet in the name of celebration, today many of educated and civilized people use alcohol. And you can hear this kind of comments, ohh Mr. X served drink in the party, it was a happening party. On the other hand this is also popular expression Mr. Y didn't  didn't serve the alcohols, how outdated he is. Anyway please watch video on effect of alcohol on human system:

Now decide for yourself, is it cool and hep if you have alcohol in your celebration or not. Remember this video is made in mild tone, it suggest that it's ok to have certain amount of drink. But I am sure if you have been to a party or gathering, you know how easy a drunker can loose the track. We need to shun this from our society. It's not cool to drink and celebrate. We need to change the paradigm and bring the culture that partying or celebration can be great only in the absence of such abusive substances. I would urge to all blog reader, please spread the message and help creating a new healthy ways of celebration. We need to take few preventive measures so that our society don't fall sick. So raise your voice and shun this evil of drinking alcohol around us. I am sure you will join me in this initiative. Share you ideas what we can do to make this world a better place.

Coming back to rape incident, this sickness of society is due to loss of morals and degradation of values. We need curative actions, preventing actions and uplifting actions so that we live in healthy and blissful society. We must shun the evil or the cause of evil and we must see how human values can be imbibed in our minds. Let's spread the message of love, service and peace. Let's celebrate life in harmony.

All Glory to Gurudev!
Love
Dinesh

Eat Less, Digest More

Spiritual or self-help teaching is a slippery path to walk upon. Being a spiritual teacher comes with a danger that one can have a notion of knowing without knowing. For example, i t is one thing to intellectually understand yoga is good for the healthy body but then doing it every day to keep the body healthy is an entirely different thing. Similarly, it is one thing to understand the benefit of practicing acceptance for the peace of mind then to living the acceptance.  Let's  expand upon it a bit. There are three kinds of understandings viz intellectual, experiential and existential. The first level of understanding is the intellectual understanding which is the most superficial one, like understanding of the mental phenomenon, methods of quietening the mind, and one can easily intellectually understand this knowledge or inner science which is very similar to the understanding of any other field like physics, chemistry, mathematics etc. Here the process mostly involves...

Sakshi-The Witness

There is wisdom beyond every event. There is love beyond every person. There is infinity beyond every object. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar These are beautiful lines spoken by world renowned spiritual leader and humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Though sounds very simple but these few lines are impregnated with vast wisdom which immediately bring the shift in consciousness by little dwelling. Other significance of these ' sutras ', the tenets of wisdom is that it covers most of mind stuff/activity/thought. If carefully deliberated one find mind dwells either on events, people or objects most of the times and all most all over conflicts whether personal or otherwise can be attributed to these three dimension of existence namely events, people and objects. Interestingly, events, people and objects brings two kinds of experiences, pleasurable or miserable. When these attributes brings pleasurable experience mind develop craving for those events, people or objects (e.g. partyin...
